Last summer, I read Gretchen Rubin’s memoir, The Happiness Project. In it, she writes about the year she spent test-driving popular theories about how to be happier. I decided not to follow her month-by-month regimen, but I have become a fan of Rubin's blog. I also started a gratitude journal, and it’s helped me become more attuned to the happy moments of my daily life.
Last summer, I also learned about SMITH Magazine’s Six Word Memoirs project, an online community of six-word memoirs, personal essays, and web comics. It made me smile.
So this summer, I've decided to combine the two. I’ll post once a week from my gratitude journal -- and I’ll do it in six words. I'll keep a running list at the top of the left column on my home page.
It isn’t as easy as it sounds, but I hope you’ll try it, too. The process is sure to make you smile.
