Our community's Father-Daughter Dance has been a highlight for my husband and my daughter for several years. Two years ago, Ellen wanted to create something special for Ken, and I wanted to write something that captured the special bond they've developed. So, we talked about their special night out. She dictated, answered my questions and filled in the blanks of what I pieced together. (No moms are allowed at the dance!) The result was one of the best Father's Day cards she'd ever created.
And now, the essay appears in the February/March 2011 issue of Our Iowa. You can see the magazine spread here. Ellen would like to remind readers that she's now 14, is no longer in braces, and would have preferred that I not post the essay. And yes, she and Ken have another date set for this year's dance. It'll be the community's 10th Annual Father-Daughter Dance and their fifth. The dress is hanging in her closet.
